Listening and Speaking in Everyday Life

1. The aims of the course
The students would be able to:

enjoy the class while learning the basics of listening and speaking; learn idioms, slang and vocabulary words, and expressions; understand and differentiate formal and  informal language used by English speakers; express themselves by forming opinions; learn how to pass information through listening; and show respect and appreciation towards others who speak English.
The students would be able to enhance their listening and speaking skills through the topics to be discussed in the whole course. This avenue would help them harness their vocabulary skills. Also, it makes the students aware of what is happening in their community or around the globe.
Listening and Speaking is about being polite in information exchange, retelling, and in giving opinions.
If and only if a student really needs counseling, the lecturer is going to entertain the student. Students can actually see the lecturer during office hours especially when the lecturer has no classes.
Learning English is not that difficult. So, in order for the students to acquire knowledge about the subject matter, there are some virtues and characteristics students’ should possess or develop: Apt and common sense-students should comprehend and think the topic carefully before doing something. Diligence- students should study lessons before attending the class. Patience- students should not get frustrated when they cannot fully understand topics. Punctuality- students should attend classes on time. Readiness- students should be ready to embrace the culture of English. Resourcefulness- students should know how to gather data and information. Sharpness- this is an attitude the students should improve in order to cope with movies or audios.
There are several ways on how to teach the students Listening and Speaking. Here are some steps to be used in Listening and Speaking 1:
Starter/Warm Up
Introduction of the topic
Vocabulary learning
Pronunciation learning
Listening to an audio
Speaking activities
Phrases analysis
Watching some videos
Give students some speaking and listening exercises. Observe the students’ individual and group activities. Give some extra sheets for further studies.
Students must have a keen understanding of vocabulary words. Students must know some patterns in the English conversation. Students must know the proper pronunciation and intonation of a word/phrase.
Students must have a keen understanding of vocabulary words. Students must know some patterns in the listening. Students must know some techniques in listening.
In teaching the content, it is very common for them to learn by repetition. So, in order for the students to acquire the knowledge in English communication skills.  It is better for them to speak over and over again for better understanding and knowledge of the subject matter. Excerpts would also be used for the students to role play some scenes in news reporting.
Give some pronunciation drills and listening practices. Prepare homework for students.
In order the students to cope with the speaking and listening activities in the class, it is best for them to prepare their intellectual knowledge to cope in the class.
Since the students are new to this kind of course, the teacher should give easy tasks in the beginning. Some exercises and games are helpful to encourage them to participate in the class. Gradually, the teacher should give average then a little difficult task for them to be prepared in the next course.
Give some speaking and listening tests. Create some games in speaking and listening.
Interpersonal ability is achieved through constant communication and mingling with people. Confidence is also important to harness interpersonal skills. Let the students do homeworks and speaking activities to develop their skills and take charge of their own responsibilities in learning the English language.
Motivation is necessary to achieve better results. Also, showing some clips for them to follow would be best for learning.
Simulation is the best way to evaluate students on this part. Seatworks and homeworks should be given to students.
The use of e-learning is very much helpful in the numerical and communication information technologies to the students.
Let the students sometimes browse or research some topics related to the syllabus on the net. Let the students use PowerPoint program for presentations and discussions.
Let them do some oral speaking and simple listening assesments.

Evaluation results from students are being done at the end of the semester, particularly right after the university-wide Final Test. It is being facilitated by the Academics Department.
Motivating the students to speak more either intrinsically or extrinsically has been the most effective in its all forms. Pedagogical techniques that have been enacted in this course differ from one course to another.
The lecturer should give time for students to speak. The lecturer should also provide other means to study each topic in the course.
In the entire course, the students must be able to express themselves in class through speaking, and even outside of the classroom using basic terms and expressions when necessary. This requirement has the most weight for them to learn and pass the course. In between the units, the students must collaborate with each other whether in listening or speaking. Students also should cooperate with the lecturer to achieve a more productive and established course.
Section 7's Number 3 should be well enacted this semester.  แก้ไข
