ASEAN Trade

Objectives of the Course
Upon completing this course, students should be able to:
 
1. Learn about the ASEAN dynamic region which has a fast growing business landscape that continues to capture the attention of the outsiders that are influenced by  the significant transformation in political, socio-cultural and  economic nature.
2. Learn the concept and development of ASEAN economic growth by countries and specific sector  particularly in the area of  Energy, Food & Agriculture, Science & Technology, Tourism, and FTA’s.
4.  Learn the development of a clear and comprehensive understanding to investigate recent international trading process in Thailand as one of ASEAN member country.
Reasons for Course Development/Modification
To update the information and knowledge about political and trade policies of Asean member countries and the outlook of trade issues.
Course Description
This course looks in detail at the ASEAN Economic Community trade perspectives. Students will review aspects of the ASEAN Trade and Political-Securities in promoting of the cross boarding trade among the member countries. The Selected of ASEAN trade and cross border trade issues will be discussed in detail such as the issues of Energy, Food & Agriculture, Science & Technology, Tourism, and FTA’s. Students will be required to investigate recent international trading process in Thailand as one of ASEAN member country. Guest speakers and field trips are an integral part of this program.
Number of hours provided for academic advice and guidance to students

     Approximately 3 to 4 hours per week
1.1 Morals and Ethics to be developed
            Student will be assigned to do team project throughout the semester; therefore, they will learn and understand how to work as a group. Also the attendant score will be strictly marked so that the student have to be on time for each class.
1.1 Teaching Methods
            Half of the class will be taught as a lecture. However, there are both of big and small group project presenting at the end of each country’s study. 
  Evaluation Methods
Team Evaluation Form will be given to student after each of their
presentation. Class attendant score will also be strictly marked in each class.
Knowledge to be acquired

- The basic or primary information about the Asean member countries geography, population, religion, political and economic system.
- Trade policies of Asean member countries
- Political systems and economic policies which are currently used to accommodate the trade policies
- Analysis part about the advantages and disadvantages of each
Asean member country in term of trade and development
Teaching Methods

The class will be taught and discussed in both active and passive atmosphere. Student sometimes have to share their thought about what they have learned or experienced. There will be several group projects that aim for further study outside the class.

Cognitive Skills to be developed

Broadening knowledge about the trade policies of the ASEAN member countries and the impact of globalization to the trade system.
Teaching Methods

Lecture and asking questions during the class in order to encourage student to think so that they are able to participate and understand content in details.
Evaluation Methods

Asking questions at the end of the class and assigned homework are the mean to recheck the understanding of student.
Interpersonal Skills and Responsibilities to be developed

The course aim to develop student’s interpersonal skills and responsibilities in several aspects e.g. soft skills, making power point and doing presentation. The student have to create their own material and communicate to the class. Also student must; in advance, prepare for the material discussed in each class.

Lecture and asking questions during the class in order to encourage student to think and share their ideas so that they are able to participate and understand content in details.
Evaluation Methods

Team Evaluation Form will be given to student after each of their presentation. Each student is able to evaluate their group members. Class attendant score will also be strictly marked in each class.
Numerical Analysis, Communication and Information Technology Skills to be developed

The calculation and numerical analysis is involved e.g. cost and profit, trade volume, and investment involve in businesses , appropriated interest rate and inflation rate.
Teaching Methods

Initially show and explain the method of calculating the equations, analyzing the graphs. Then applying those result of figure to the country’s trade policies and strategies. Finally, the student will be encouraged to think and share their opinion to the class.     
Evaluation Methods

In class and homework of case analysis of companies investing in Asean,  analysis of the company balance sheet and analysis of investment table among Asean member countries will be discussed.

Evaluation Strategies for Course Effectiveness by Students

- Questionnaires about course’s expectation and attitude toward ASEAN Economics will be given at the beginning of the course.
- Course Evaluation Form will be given at the end of the course
Teaching Evaluation Strategies

The student will be asked to evaluate the class whether they like the content and teaching style or not,   what they further want to study and etc. The class will be very flexible. The content and material can be changed throughout the course.
Teaching Improvement

While teaching, the teacher observes class atmosphere e.g. what make class fun that every student participate and share their ideas. All student are welcome to talk and consult teacher personally about their obstacles or problems about studying. Then teacher adjust the class according to the occasion and students.
Verification of Students Achievements in the Course

Three Pop-up quizzes will be instantly held during the course. The teacher will be able to check whether student understand the content of the class.
Midterm and final exam are also a good indicator to measure the class achievement.
Course Review and Improvement Plan for the Course Effectiveness

At the end of each class, student will be asked to review what they have learned. The class will also discuss further about what should be added or changed for the course effective.
